These workshops give you an amazing learning opportunity in one of America’s most scenic regions. Our base is the beautiful Absaroka Ranch, located in the southern Absaroka Mountains, just south of Yellowstone and just east of Grand Teton National Park.

This year I will be joining Jim Griggs to carry on this incredible workshop experience. I’ll be taking over for renown National Geographic photographer and legend Boyd Norton. Boyd decided to retire this last year at the age of 91. I know I have some big shoes to fill!

The fabulous Absaroka Ranch has been our locale for this exciting photography workshop for the past ten years. We limit the workshop to 12 participants to give lots of personal attention to your needs. This is a great bargain for photographers wishing to expand their creativity in a spectacular region. The ranch itself is a prime focus for photos, sitting at the base of the Southern Absaroka Range amid numerous aspen trees.
Field trips during the workshop take us to waterfalls, petroglyphs of prehistoric residents, wildlife such as bighorn sheep, and numerous other aspen forests ablaze with autumn color in remote valleys.

Instruction

This workshop is primarily an in- field workshop. The small group with two instructors ensures that there will be lots of one on one instruction and time for individual attention. There are some short classroom sessions to cover material and techniques that are needed to maximize your field shoots. As an added bonus, Jim, together with his wife Cindy, will teach a session on video and what you need to know to create exciting video with your digital camera or phone.

Here are a few of the topics we will cover during the week:

  •  Tapping into your creativity
  • Photographing Night Skies
  • Creating movement and using the blur
  •  Enhance your story with video, using your camera or your phone
  •  Working in the field using available and natural light

Itinerary

This workshop begins on 3pm August 3 and ends on 10am August 8. Each day will be filled with photographic opportunities and field excursions. Mid-day will include rest time and or short classroom presentations. Each morning we will begin with a review of the days events based upon light, weather, and photographic conditions. Our philosophy is that learning in the field is the most fun and best way to learn.
