If you like to photograph wildflowers, birds and waterfalls then you’ll love the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in the spring. Large-flowered trilliums and bluets carpet the forest floor, Warbler migration is in full swing, and the waterfalls are flowing with spring run-off.
Instruction
This workshop is primarily a field shooting workshop. While there are no classroom sessions there will be field demonstrations and discussions. In addition I am available one on one tutorials or instruction in the field. My primary emphasis while in the field is to make sure that you are able to get awesome images.
Instruction topics in the field: camera technique, proper metering for proper exposure, how to read histograms, composition for impact, filtering for water motion effects, waterfall and landscape photography techniques, macro and close-up photography, bird photography and much more.
Itinerary
Day One
begins at our hotel in Silver City, after a brief orientation meeting and check in we will go to the Little Carp River to photograph cascades and waterfalls. After this location we will go to the Presque Isle River where the Presque Isle River flows over sandstone ledges, and swirling caldrons as it drops into Lake Superior. There will also be opportunities for trillums and bluets blooming in the woods.
Instruction for the day includes the use of filters for waterfalls, and creating special effects with moving water.
Ontonagon area
Porcupine Mountains, Little Carp River, to Preque Isle River
Day Two
We will start our day early with a trip to Lake of the Clouds for sunrise. Then breakfast. After breakfast we will drive to the Munising area. Along the way we will stop for waterfalls and wildflowers. After a mid-day meal we will go to Whitefish falls. In the evening we will photograph wildflowers in the Pictured Rocks area.
Instruction for the day includes macro and close-up techniques for wildflowers and reviewing filtering and waterfall techniques.

Day Three
Our third day begins with a sunrise shoot at Miners Beach and Elliot Falls. After breakfast we will drive to the Newberry area and photograph Tahquamenon Falls. Our day will end with a drive to the shore at Crisp Point to photograph the Lighthouse there.
Instruction for the day includes filtering for landscapes and a review of creating special effects using water in motion.

Day Four
We begin our day with a sunrise at Whitefish Point, followed by photographing the warbler migration. Whitefish Point is a prime spot for warblers in the spring. After breakfast we will drive to the Shallows where the rare Piping Plover is known to hang out. Then we will drive to the Ottawa National Forest for spring wildflowers
Instruction for the day includes bird photography and review of macro and close-up technique.

Day Five
Our last day begins with an early morning shoot at Bond Falls, one of the most picturesque falls in the UP. After the photoshoot we will meet for breakfast before we begin our drive home.

Location
Michigan Upper Peninsula. The workshop will begin in Silver City Michigan and conclude near Watersmeet Michigan.
Physical Requirements
Our photographic locations will accommodate a wide range of physical abilities, with most locations not requiring extensive physical exertion. The overall physical requirements are moderate, meaning you should be able to walk a mile over uneven terrain.
Payment
A nonrefundable deposit of $500 will hold your registration until 90 days prior to the workshop when the balance is due.

Includes guided tours and photographic instruction. Transportation, meals and hotel accommodations are not included. A list of hotels where we have rooms blocked will be provided upon registration.
