Against the fading light of a western sunset on the North Plains, this workshop will illuminate the intricacies of light painting. Work with the fading light of twilight to set just the right illumination for an abandoned barn. Return the inner glow to a homestead that has been abandoned for years or illuminate an old tractor or sedan against the Milky Way. This workshop will offer you the opportunity and skills to make these photographs.
Instruction
We will teach you how to light a subject, so it blends and is a part of the surrounding landscape. We will discover the difference between using light panels, spotlights, flashlights, headlamps, glow sticks, and strobes. The workshop will instruct you on how to light for twilight and night scenes. We will experiment with exposures that are short enough to capture the Milky Way and exposures that are long enough to create star trails. We will develop light schemes that are suitable for long exposures and the proper light schemes for short exposures. We will experiment and work with lighting from within a structure, light applied from the outside of a structure, and backlighting from behind structures.
