A North Dakota Photo Tour
There is nothing like a road trip to excite your photographic sensibilities and invigorate your vision. North Dakota is the perfect place for a photographic road trip–wide open spaces, friendly people, beautiful sunsets, and incredible wildlife!
From the allure of abandoned homesteads to the novelty of a great State Fair to the majestic natural beauty of Theodore Roosevelt National Park this workshop promises to deliver photographic subject-matter in spades!

Instruction
This workshop is primarily a field shoot workshop. In this workshop, we will learn techniques that will give your images pizzazz and impact. We will explore landscape techniques and the use of filters. You will learn how to filter for extreme lighting conditions, including indoor and outdoor locations. We will experiment with light painting and how to get the most from natural light, as well as mixing light for interior locations. We will discuss the best approach for social documentation and shooting events like the State Fair and midways.
Location
We will be on the move throughout North Dakota. Our road trip will begin in Bottineau North Dakota and end in Dickinson North Dakota. Bottineau is about 80 miles NE of Minot ND. If you are planning to fly you will want to fly into Bismark where we can pick you up and at the end of the workshop drop you off.
Bottineau is approximately a 7.5-hour drive from Mpls MN.
Sample Itinerary
Each day we will rise early and work late, there will be plenty of opportunity for breaks, naps, and rest. There will also be plenty of opportunities to capture stunning photographs. Our schedule is subject to change due to light and weather conditions.
July 28
The workshop begins 3 pm in Bottineau ND. Photography of abandoned homesteads and landscapes
July 29
Minot; North Dakota State Fair–photography of agriculture barns, 4-H contestants, midway. Railcar sunset and light painting. End the day in Stanley ND.
July 30
Lund Valley Elevator and surrounding landscapes. Sunset photoshoot with Native American Dancers on Lake Sakakawea. End the day Newtown ND
July 31
North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt Park, wildlife and landscapes, Sunset photo-shoot in South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt Park, end the day at Medora ND.
August 1
Medora ND; Sunrise in Theodore Roosevelt Park, buffalo, wild horses, prairie dogs and landscape photography. Sunset photo shoot of the park.
Specific locations and times are not given because each day’s itinerary will be determined by weather, light, and subject opportunity.
Payment
The workshop fee is for tuition and guided tours to selected locations.
Cost: $1795
Ground transportation (Bismark ND to Bismark ND) is provided for an extra fee of $300.
A non-refundable deposit of $200 will hold your spot until 60 days prior to the workshop when the balance is due.
Maximum of 6 participants.
