Four exciting one-day seminars throughout the summer and fall. Take one, or take all four! These workshops offer a quick get away for people interested in improving their photography and having fun. They are a blend of classroom and field experience. There are no perquisites and
are appropriate for beginners or advanced photographers. A mirrorless or DSLR type digital camera and tripod is best to get the most out of these workshops. A laptop computer with Adobe Lightroom or Adobe Camera Raw is helpful but not required.
**Please Note: I have posted these workshops and description here as a “Save The Date” only. All registration and administration will be done by the Minnesota Historical Society and Split Rock Lighthouse. Most likely registration will not be available until after January 1, 2025. Once the registration portals are online I will post links here.
Split Rock Night & Twilight Photography
July 19, 2025
Scheduled to coincide with optimum visibility of the milky way this workshop will give you the skills to capture the twilight and night sky with the lighthouse lit specially for photographic purposes (stationary light as opposed to a sweeping light, which makes it easier for photography.)
The workshop begins on Saturday at 1:00pm with a classroom session. The classroom session will cover the skills and camera settings for an optimum twilight and night sky photo shoot.
9:00PM Split Rock Lighthouse and State Park. We will meet for the field portion of the workshop. We will shoot from the Pebble Beach, Ledge Rock, and Lighthouse Grounds. Field Photoshoot will last until approximately 1:00AM.
In the event of rain we will still shoot the lighthouse with light on provided the rain isn’t coming down too hard.
Split Rock Lighthouse Sunrise Photography
August 8-9, 2025
This workshop begins with a welcome meeting to orient the photographers to the next day’s events. Time of meeting: 8:00PM
August 9 our sunrise photoshoot begins at 5:30AM at the Trail Center in the Split Rock State Park. From there we will shoot on the ledge rock and pebble beach area. At 8:30 we will meet for breakfast at the Northwoods Café in Silver Bay 11:00AM until 2:00PM we will meet in the classroom to review work and learn post processing techniques.

September 19-20, 2025
September 19, This workshop is designed to teach the best technique for B&W Landscape Photography, it begins with a welcome meeting to orient the photographers to the next day’s events. Time of meeting: 8:00PM
September 20 our sunrise photoshoot begins at 6:30AM at the Trail Center in the Split Rock State Park. From there we will shoot on the ledge rock and pebble beach area. At 9:00 we will meet for breakfast at the Northwoods Café in Silver Bay. 11:00AM until 2:00PM we will meet in the classroom to review work and learn post processing techniques to optimize B&W imaging.
